Response of Self Reliant

I strongly agree with this little paragraph off of the reading "A political victory, a rise of rents, the recovery of your sick, or the return of your absent friend, or some other favorable event, raises your spirits, and you think good days are preparing for you. Do not believe it. Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles."    I agree with it because that is true.  You're accountable for the things you do,  feel or say. You're responsible for all of that. Not a single man can take that from you. Not a single man can tell you how to feel or say or do. You bring peace to yourself. A better day will be the day you decide to break out of those "jail cages" and be independent and not worry if society will take in for who you are. Be the sheep who guides the others not one who follows. Follow your heart and you'll bring happiness to yourself and that's what matters.

Emerson says that people should follow their own will because as the older you get you start becoming sheep and follow others to fit in with society. Here's a video where they put to test people to see if they follow what others did.  *MUST WATCH*

AUTHOR IN PROGRESS

Over all I did pretty good I believe. I did not do a pre-write so I for not doing so I think I put a lot I didn't even know I could come up with. I need to work on understanding more what he tries implying by not being so obvious about it either. But I am proud of what I wrote.

About my lit book

Something interesting about my lit book is that a girl at a very young age is suspecting that something wrong is gonna happen to her mom. Teenage year comes and something does happen to her mom, because she gets powers she doesn't even know how to use or know how to control them.

MY AMERICAN VOICE

I speak up when things are getting out of hand like bulling, some sort of mistreat, etc.. I'd be lying if I said I speak up ALL the time when something is wrong, I mean what teenager does? Also when people ask for an opinion I speak up. When I have some sort of knowledge on the topic or circumstance, other times I'd probably observe and say nothing until I have good background about it

Rough Draft to my Mentor

Dear Saul McLeod,

I am a student at Santa Maria High School. Not only is this a big deal and an important letter to write according to my English teacher, but it also is to me. I am anxious to get an answer to my questions. I want to know why are humans taught to listen to the orders they are given, also why do people regret things? Quiet a few people live in the type of mindset where they live life by "what if.." For example, "What if I did things differently that would have never happened, I regret what I did." So why do humans regret things? If at one point it was exactly what they wanted. I understand that they just hoped for a different outcome, but I want to get a deeper, more precise answer to that question. My first question is one that I really am curious about. Humans are taught at a young age to listen to the orders they are given, by their parents, teachers, etc., well, while doing so they also say you have a mind of your own and you do what you want to do, but they don't really mean that because your whole life they have been giving you orders and expect you to follow them. So in reality you don't have a mind of your own and you can't do things you want to, I mean some things you can, but other things you can't because you were taught not to. I am hoping to hear from you soon with answers to my questions.

Sincerely,

Regina Saucedo
